The Harris Family is proud to partner with Compassion International in their mission to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. Millions of children live in extreme poverty. They suffer from hunger and disease, and all too often are neglected or abused. Here are few of the heartbreaking facts:

• Every day, more than 25,000 children age 5 and younger die from mostly preventable illnesses.
• Worldwide, 161 million preschool children are malnourished.
• Nearly 75 million school-age children can only dream of going to school because they can’t afford the fees.

Compassion’s goal is to release children from poverty, one precious life at a time. Compassion is not just about sponsorship; it is a holistic child-development organization addressing every area of the child’s life, to develop her physically, economically, socially and spiritually, taking her beyond the basic survival needs. No amount of money will change a child’s life. It will affect his circumstances, but only Jesus can change a heart and, thereby, a life. As an involved, praying, letter-writing, encouraging, loving, nurturing sponsor, you can make Jesus real to a child. The current cost of sponsorship is $38 per month.  That’s about a buck-and-a-quarter per day; you can’t go to a movie or buy a cup of designer coffee for that!

What is The Harris Family doing to help?
As part of our partnership with Compassion International, we are committed to “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute…and defend the rights of the poor and needy” (Proverbs 31:8-9). This includes:

• Child Advocacy.  At every event that we are a part of, we will share about Compassion’s ministry as we have opportunity to do so. We will have information and literature about Compassion International available at our product table and will be available to answer any questions. For those who feel that child sponsorship is something God would have them pursue, we will be happy to help them get started.
• Compassion Sunday events.  It is our goal to do four events per year that will focus on how God is using Compassion International to change the lives of children, families, and entire communities in some of the most under-developed countries around the world. We will work with individual churches and pastors to facilitate the event, bringing with us videos, literature, posters, and child packets so that those who are interested can select a child to sponsor right on the spot.
